Vision

During a 5k this morning that had a few turns on the course, I was reminded of one of the first things I learned running the 800 meters in high school. That race has a staggered start, so after you make the first corner and can cut in, you don’t want to rush to lane one immediately, but find your line and gradually cut in for the most efficient way there. To do that, you have to keep your head up and see the bigger picture. If you have your head down, you’ll miss it.

Vision is so important. It reminds us where we’re going and keeps us focused on the path ahead. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” God has given us a guide to follow, his Word, the ultimate vision, and He has also created us with such intention and purpose that He has a unique plan for each of us while we’re here on earth.

We might stumble or have roadblocks along the way, but don’t get distracted. Keep your focus on God because He can, and will, use your journey (and all the stumbles and roadblocks along the way) to accomplish something truly special if you let Him.

And if you don’t have a vision for your life? Start asking Him! How does He want to use you? What passions has He put in your heart? What giftings do you have that can be a blessing to people around you? It might not always make sense, but keep your head up, stay focused on Him, and watch what He’ll do.
