A few weeks ago, I got to run for the first time in 8 months. From months of trying to figure out the issue causing my pain, to surgery, then physical therapy, my first real injury forced me to get back to the basics. Getting back to running has required strengthening in areas I’d ignored for years. And though it might take a while to get back to where I was before, with a stronger base, I believe I’ll be stronger and faster than before.
Just like in running, I feel like sometimes we just need to get back to the basics in life. It can be easy to go down a rabbit hole trying to figure out answers to difficult questions we might never truly know the answers to. Or get distracted chasing dreams or being overwhelmed with all life has thrown your way and forgetting what truly matters. Or just making things complicated when it really doesn’t need to be.
Here’s my base: God loves us. He wants a relationship with us. He sent His only son, Jesus, who died for each of us to take away our sin and rose again so that we can have a personal relationship with Him. That’s what matters. When I have that as my base, I will be stronger. I can get through the hard times and filter through the things that don’t matter. And the more I strengthen that base (adding to my knowledge of who God is, what His character is, and who I am in Him), the stronger I’ll become. Is it time for you to get back to the basics?
